RED
BARON II/ 3D PLAYERS COMMUNITY

Most
play either Singleplay(SP) or Multiplay(MMP) predominately, creating
2 distinct player communities. The mod community, as a whole, is
not as well defined between SP / MMP and most mods are applicable
to both venues of gameplay.

1.
The SP community and it's modders are represented almost entirely
by the Society of WWI Simulation Artisans (SWWISA) and friends.
The
SWWISA Delphiforum is the primary general discussion and *help*
forum, evolving from Flight Simulator Delphiforum (defunct). There
are, however, several important MMP community leaders among SWWISA
members and posters at it's forum.

2.
The MMP community has no group(s) representing a significant
percentage of players.
a. MMP play has evolved predominately into various war events
with widely varying formats, designed by sponsoring squads and server
ops. Most unorganized public play now occurs on these same squad
*practice* servers. Due to this evolution, it is the squads, their
leadership personnel, squad alliances and agreements to rulesets
of play that can be said to 'represent' MMP players. Currently there
are no large squads nor alliances of squads in any significant *divisive*
community conflict , only well spirited rivalries normally existing
in competitive online game communities. There are currently about
50 active MP squads and 100s of nonaffiliated players.
b. One area of nearly complete consensus with MMP players ,
squad members and *indies* alike, is the MP Paint distribution of
paintscheme/chatchannel code numbers, organized and maintained at
Flybert's Chateau website since Jan 1999.
c. General MMP related discussion occurs predominately at
Wings
of Valor or the event and squad forums at SQHQ.net
d. Due to flight and damage model problems with stock game,
and inadequate anti-cheat security, many otherwise diehard WWI combat
flight sim fans have left RB3D. As an example, the oldest still-active
online squad, Wingwalkers , established in 1992 with Red Baron(1),
today has a much larger roster in IL-2 Strumovik than Red Baron
3D, despite having greater interest in WWI air combat than WWII

3. The
Red Baron II/3D WebRing , established in 1996 , is another
area of continuity serving the entire community.
